Take 6 Newark Concert reviews
Dave and the Band Blew the Crowd Away
Take 6 played most of their newest album, "Big Whiskey and the Groo Grux King" to a sold-out audience at the DTE, starting off with "Proudest Monkey" and playing hard for a solid two and a half hours.
The entire band was in rare form, with Boyd stealing the show with his amazing fiddling at least four times. Rashawn's trumpet was hot too, and together with Jeff they did a great set together. Not to be outdone, the newest member, Jeff Coffin, the sax player, blew us all away with an impressive solo on two saxes at once! The man sounded like a train.
The show, the crowd, and the atmosphere, even in a sold-out venue, was great: mellow, friendly, happy, and enjoying the moment. Dave himself even took his own solo with an impressive and long scat session. But don't forget the ultimate support of Stefan and Carter, who are as rock solid as they come.
The band came back for a great encore, doing two more songs from the new album, which has to be pointed out, is back to the magic of the first two albums. I can't wait for Take 6's next show! We will certainly be there... I don't think the crowd sat down once; they were too busy dancing and singing along.
